Meek Mills To Remain In Prison; F.B.I Investigates Conduct of Presiding Judge Genece Brinkley

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: MICHAEL SMITH

A Philadelphia judge says Meek Mill will stay in prison because he is a "danger to the community"

Who is Genece Brinkley?

Judge Brinkley denied a request to allow the 30-year-old rapper to be bailed out of a Pennsylvania prison. Mill's attorney said they plan to appeal her ruling, saying it continues a "long pattern of unfair treatment".

The judge's decision comes after the state superior court last week told her to act "without further delay" on a two-week-old request to free the rapper. Meek was sentenced last month to 2 to 4 years for violating probation on a roughly decade-old gun and drug case, Mill's probation officer, and a prosecutor had recommended that he not be jailed. His imprisonment has sparked backlash on blogs, rallies, billboard and bus ads.

Meek's lawyer seeks judge removal

Meek Mill's lawyers are renewing their call for the Philadelphia judge who sentenced him to step aside, saying "there was an F.B.I investigation" into her conduct and the rapper's case. Mill's lawyers say in a court filing Monday that the rapper and his representatives were aware of the investigation into judge Genece Brinkley's conduct since 2016.

But they are declining to answer any questions about their new claim. The FBI says it does not confirm or deny investigations. The judge had no comment, Mill's lawyer made the new allegation after the judge denied a request that he be freed on bail.
